RCC Slab Cost per Sq Ft in India — How to Estimate

Convert slab thickness and local concrete rates into a rough ₹ per sq ft material cost for residential RCC floors and roofs.

Contractors quote slabs as ₹ per sq ft of built-up area. Estimators on site think in volume and bags. Both views connect through one formula — and our Concrete Slab Calculator does the heavy lifting once you know thickness and local rates.

The quick formula

Slab material cost per sq ft ≈ (thickness in ft) × (concrete rate per cft)

Or in metric:

Cost per m² ≈ thickness (m) × ₹/m³

Example: 100 mm (4 inch) slab, ready-mix / site concrete at ₹5,500/m³:

  • Thickness = 0.1 m
  • Cost per m² = 0.1 × 5,500 = ₹550/m²
  • Cost per sq ft = 550 ÷ 10.764 ≈ ₹51/sq ft (material-only, concrete)

That is concrete only — not steel, shuttering, labour, or pump hire.

Worked example — 10 ft × 12 ft room slab

Floor area = 120 sq ft (~11.15 m²), 4 inches thick.

| Step | Value | |------|--------| | Wet volume | ~3.35 cft (~0.095 m³) | | M20 cement bags | ~8 bags | | Concrete cost @ ₹5,500/m³ | ~₹520–620 range |

Per sq ft of floor area: roughly ₹4–5 for cement in the concrete mix alone — the rest of the ₹50/sq ft figure is sand, aggregate, and batching margin bundled in the ₹/m³ rate.

Use the calculator with your ₹/m³ rate to get low/high cost for the whole slab, then divide by floor area for your ₹/sq ft benchmark.

What moves the rate

| Factor | Effect | |--------|--------| | Thickness | 125 mm slab costs ~25% more per sq ft than 100 mm | | Grade (M20 vs M25) | More cement → higher material cost | | Ready-mix vs site mix | RMC adds delivery; site mix adds labour coordination | | City / haul | Sand and aggregate distance changes ₹/m³ |

Steel typically adds ₹80–150+ per sq ft depending on design — completely separate from this concrete-only figure.

Typical ballpark bands (material, concrete only)

These are planning bands, not quotes — confirm locally:

| Thickness | Rough concrete material / sq ft | |-----------|--------------------------------| | 4 in (100 mm) | ₹45–65 | | 5 in (125 mm) | ₹55–80 |

Add steel, labour, and formwork for total slab cost — often 3–5× the concrete material line alone on residential sites.

FAQ

Is ₹ per sq ft the same as turnkey slab cost?

No. Turnkey includes shuttering, steel fixing, pouring, curing, and contractor margin. ₹/sq ft material benchmarks help you sanity-check a quote, not replace it.

Floor slab vs roof slab — same rate?

Same thickness and grade → similar concrete cost per sq ft. Roofs may use more steel; that is not in the concrete-only number.

How do I get ₹/m³ for my city?

Ask your ready-mix supplier or batching contractor for delivered M20 rate per m³. Edit that in the calculator’s price field.
